How to open a Wiki Page

There are some ways by which a student can create his/her own wiki page. At first he has to open an ID in Wikipedia for creating his own wiki page. In this case, he has to go to "www.wikispaces.com". Then there'll be an option "join now" within this option he has to click in "I am a student" rather than "I am a teacher". After that for opening ID he has to fulfill some information about him such as , "user name", "password", "E-mail" and then finally he can click in "join" button for his ID on wikipedia.


Now through his ID he can open his wiki page where at first he has to go to the link "www.wikipedia.org" and then he will get different language and he has to put the English language. then on the page in right side of upper level, there is an option "Sign in" where he has to sign in by by his name & password what he used for creating the ID.then there will be a "Search" option where he can search his topic & then they will show him about the topic whether its already have in there or he need to create with another name. and in this case there will be line like "you may create the page"the topic's name" and he has to click in the name of the topic where he'll get a page for writing his article for creating a wiki-page. after that he can give some internal link by clicking "link" over there and type the name what he wants to give as an internal link. Then there will be an another option beside the link option named "Cite" by which he can give references as the sources of the article. then before publishing it he can see the preview of his publishing by clicking "see preview" on the lower side of space and then finally he has to click "save" button for creating his wiki-page.

Reflection of Today's "Use of Technoloy in ELT" class

Before starting the class, I was thinking that all the students would sit for a quiz but then sir informed that it would not be held on today. Then I became happy but at the end of the class,all of my happiness became bitter where sir gave lots of task for the next week.

In the class we the students got familiar with two new things and these are "pod castings" & "hot potatoes". Both of these are interesting things where through pod casting I can record my voice and make audio. on the other hand through hot potatoes I can make online quizzes in differently which also gives feedback to the students.

All the interesting things are good when it is open and it became complicated when someone has to do all the things within a time limit where it is forced. Though we know that without any force, students do not want to do any activities, is it judgmental to give lots of tasks for a week where sufferings of one task (Wiki-page) is not even finished..??!!

Today I got lots of task and the first task is about to write my class reflection in blog within today,second task is to write the steps what I followed fro opening my wiki-page within tomorrow,third task is to select a lesson for the final project in the next class, fourth task is to make a podcast through "Audacity" and post it in our group, fifth task is to make some activities by following "Hot potatoes". Besides this I have a teaching session in another course as well as a written assignment on tomorrow. In addition in next week I have another quiz with this course's two quizes.

Is it possible to do all the things quite nicely..??! I dont think so and truely speaking I am so much tensed about all these things where I am inexperienced of using hot potatoes and audacity.In this case one thing we could do or sir could manage that to do this work practically in the class which would decrease our stresses. As in this level,we know that some of the students are expert & some are very weak,so its become a questionable issue to me whether its good for all the students or not...!!!


Moreover my house is full of guests and with my other family members I have to give times to them .

Anyway hope not to get worry about these and to be a "Superwoman" and do all the things within time.

A Very Harsh & Unpleasant Experience of Writing the Wiki-Page

Why I Started the Wiki Writing Project:

 As I am doing a course with other students at Brac University which is related with technology and the name of the course is “Use of Technology in ELT”. Here we have learn many things regarding technology such as how it helps the students to learn, how a teacher can teach through technology for improving different skills like listening, speaking, different ways of improving our writing skills, how to improve vocabulary through games and different interesting ways of finding the meaning as well as the use of a word etc. In this case we have known about wiki page and how to open an ID from wiki spaces. Then through group chat we got the idea of Wikipedia where all of we know that anyone can edit the article which is written by another one which indicates that the information might be wrong. But the good thing is that a person should read it out and find out the problem which helps him/her to improve skills of reading as well as writing. So the instructor of the course told us to create a wiki-page which will be given marks and this is the main reason of wiki writing project.






Challenges I Faced During the Compilation & Publishing Online:

We the students of  the course "Use of Technology in ELT" were supposed to create or write a wiki page where we got 3 days for it. As I had teaching session from another course for 2 days it was really difficult for me to create this within a short time. In a very first day what I did is, I started to write the wiki page where I had made my article nicely. Then at first what I did is that I started to open wiki page from my ID of Wiki spaces & I tried for several times then I quitted that. After that by searching in Google, I found another link where they showed 9 steps of creating wiki-page. The most sad things happened when I started to write again where it did not took my article because the same article was there(as I tried earlier for several times & my content went over there). Then I tried again & again which made me awaken from 9pm to 3am !! and it was about a nonprofit charity named “Insaan Aid”.
 Then the next day I had teaching session at morning & after coming from there I contacted with my instructor about this & he suggested me to make another article for creating a wiki page. Then I started to collect information about my new topic which is on "Natural beauty of Sylhet". Then when I started to post this, it seemed okay but after few minutes it went in wrong where in the article it was written "speed in deletion" where I was not familiar with the term and automatically it was deleted.


 After that I choose another topic about my school "Our Lady of Fatima Girls High School, Comilla”. Then at first it was done nicely but whenever I started to open it for the second time,it was vanished where there was no content about it. In addition when I tried to make another with the same content, it was informed that there was the same content as well as my content is not under encyclopedia's rule.
 Honesty speaking, I made all the 3 articles in my own way where I just took help from internet about the information. Then I thought I should copy and paste the information though there was strictly written that no copy-paste will be accepted. I got a link from one of my peers and I just copied the information from one source and paste it to my wiki-page & the interesting thing is till now it’s visible where my own previous 3 articles were invisible...!!!! Among all these sad things, one happy thing is that within the time I was able to create a so called "wiki-page" though it was totally copied and the authority even did not noticed it. Now I can say that I know the process of writing a wiki-page.

Helps & Support I Got From My Peers:
In the mean time I gave a message to one of my classmates (about the problem I was facing), who is good in ICT where he also put the link of his wiki page & the sad thing was that though he received my sms, he did not give any reply whether he was able to give me the solution or not, I mean he was totally silent. Then I also asked to another peer & she politely told that she was not familiar with the problem. Finally from another peer, I got a link which helped me to create a wiki-page.

How Will This Experience of Wiki Project Help Me for Teaching English to My Future Learners:

At first, as I have gone through some difficult parts of choosing a topic, collecting information, organizing as well as publishing the writing, it can help me to make my future students aware about the difficulties and show them how to create it correctly. Secondly, as I got some good and bad experience from my peers, I can also suggest my learners about to help each other. Thirdly I can use the whole process as an example where students should not stop when they are not able to do the work. Fourthly, I can suggest them to search in Google and find out the appropriate ways.

What Skills/Competencies Will this Kind of Project Promote :

As this projects deals with many activities which indicates skills/competencies by which anyone can develop him/her. Firstly, a person has to choose a topic which is not in Wikipedia which will improve his thinking capability. After choosing the topic he has to collect information from internet or the other sources which will improve his reading & writing skills. By reading the collected information, he has to organize this in his own way with synchronizations and it will also help him in writing. After that he has to publish it by following some steps which are written over the page and if anyone is new here, in this case he can take help from Google where there are different written steps as well as videos about the steps they can follow. In this case it will also improve his listening skills with visualization.

Pleasant or Unpleasant Situation..??!!

Normally when guests come in my home, I become happy because I can pass some good times with them. One important thing is, I have to give them time as they stay for few days & then go away. But in this time I am really confused to take decision whether the coming of guests( few of my cousins) in my home is pleasant or unpleasant..?!!

The week starts with my teaching to DEVPRO( Training centre) for 2 days (Sunday & Monday) on belhalf of the course of "Teaching Pracicum". In addition, Monday was the last date for submitting my wiki-page where I had to open a wiki-page for the first time in life,on behalf of the course of  "Use of Technology in ELT". Then the next day(Tuesday), I was again struggling with wiki where I could not able to do the whole thing correctly. After that in Wednesday, I mean today I have to give time on a lesson where I will have a quiz on it on next Friday. As I have classes on 3 days( Thursday, Friday & Saturday) in a week, within these days I am not able to do all the activities I am supposed to do because my classes starts at noon & finish almost at evening. In addition I have a teaching session on next Saturday as well as an assignment submission on behalf of the course of "syllabus, material, curriculum & evaluation". So now should I give focus on my quiz or assignmnet or prepare myself for teaching or give time to the guests..??!!!
                                                                                                                                                                      


Its really hard to face this kind of situations where every time my consciousness is poking me to do one work (regarding study) but I have to do other works because that's also my duty (give time to the guests). The guests who came yesterday, were lastly visited our home 7 years ago,so they can expected from us to give times. Besides that, as they don't live in Bangladesh, they want to see as well as visit many places with us. Here one thing I should mention that, now I am the only one person who can make their plan true where my mom is always busy with making foods,my father & sister is now out of Dhaka, my brother goes for his job,and as I have no classes I have to give them time where anyone of them has no idea about my situations. Another thing is that I am the same age person with them & that is why they also expecting me more with them to enjoy the time.

Anyway we have to lead our lives with this kind of situations. So no need to be worry & lets hope that I'll be a "Superwoman" who can do all the things together  without feeling tired or tensed..!!

A Busiest Day

Today the whole day I have passed by doing some noticeable activities where the day was started with the teaching program at DEVPRO( Training Centre) at 9:00 am. It was done under one of the courses I am doing and the name of the course is “Teaching Practicum”.  Along with a mate, I taught the managers for 3 hours. As Ramadan month is going on, it’s really tough to do such kind of activities for a long time when a person is fasting. I think now I can realize a bit about any teacher’s condition of teaching in Ramadan month.
After the teaching session I came to my home. In addition I was feeling very much thirsty because of long time tasks as well as journey. Then I was thinking about the time of “Ifter” when I would get chance to drink a glass of water. Suddenly an idea came to my mind & I started to do it. The idea is about to make the Ifter’s items for today. Rarely do I make any item in Ramadan month. Then I started to make and the thing I first made was the item which was made by me for the first time in my entire life. And the most interesting thing is, I did not say anything to my family members about the item I was going to made and finally they became surprised by seeing the item. It was “sweets” and I took help from one of the groups of my facebook  ID.  Besides this I also made some others items like potato chop, brinjal chop, rashma, parble chop, chicken kabab, french fry, fruit custard, dal chop, matha(as a drink), lemon juice etc. Today’s all iftari items were made by me & I was fully happy by cooking all these whenever I saw the smiling faces of my family members. So now surely I can say that it was a busiest day but of course a memorable day for me..!!

First Written Examination at Brac University

I have given a written exam for the first time at Brac university. The name of the course was " syllabus, material, design and evaluation". For the last two days I was so tensed about the exam. The whole syllabus for the exam was completed by our knowledgeable teacher named "Hamidur Rahman". As I am not used to with the writing style, length , question pattern, marks distribution of the institution, I was a bit confused about the exam. Then today at 3 pm I have participated in the exam and after finishing the exam I was feeling so relaxed. I was not feeling relaxed for the performance of my exam rather for keeping me far from the tension of exam ,though I have lots of task pending such as tomorrow at 9 am I have to go to DEVPRO(trainning centre) for teaching the BRAC managers where I just got the lesson plan for it. I am not prepared yet. Besides this, I have to complete the task of wiki where I am supposed to do it within day after tomorrow. I have collected all the materials & I just need to make them organized. In addition, in my syllabus & material course, sir gave an assignment where the students have to evaluate a curriculum on the basis of our context and this assignment should be submitted within next week. so lots of pending work but I am feeling relaxed by finishing one mid term exam.

First Formal Presentation at BRAC University

It was on 26th June when for the first time I participated on a presentation formally at Brac University and ed to make a final outcome of my presentation.

Then on presentation day, the teacher did not force anyone & told anyone can present as his/her wish. when I found that no one is going, I thought I should go because I had made the whole presentation in such way where I was confidant about my theories as well as how theories were connected with my activities of developing professionals. Then I went & just presented what I made. As sir's feedback & my classmates' feedback it was not bad at all. So I was so happy with my first formal presentation at BRAC university.

the name of the course was "Leadership & Management". The classes were going in a very good way where the class went through with interactions between students & teacher. At a meanwhile we were informed by the teacher about our presentation & as we all have earlier experiences on presentation, it seemed not a tough thing. The good thing was, our instructor informed us almost 15 days ago. Then when I had started to think about presentation, I became too nervous because it was a quite new experience of mine where I had to be a head of an English teaching organization & then find out some sectors wh

ere professional development is necessary and then from those, I had to select one & go through the whole process like how I would develop them ( training, mentoring, coaching etc), the time, the duration, the employees etc. So in the class, along my few mates I told our teacher to discuss about how to proceed with the presentation. we were so lucky that our teacher gave us so many extra times for discussing as well as we can contact with him over e-mail & the main thing is he never feel disturbed rather became happy when we ask him. One more interesting thing, I found in my teacher's tendency is that, whenever students ask any question, he tries to find out the result by themselves through asking many related question.
