Reflection of TSL-503( How to Evaluate a National Curriculum)

In our country there are different phase of educations & on the basis of which curriculum is made & these are primary education, Secondary education & Tertiary education. Here I am going to evaluate the curriculum of secondary education (Class ix & x). 

Through evaluation we try to find out whether a curriculum is fulfilling its purpose and whether students are actually learning in below with some points:

1) Who the curriculum is for:

Here the target group, their ages, background, level etc is considered.

2)Proficiency Level of the Learners:


The students’ proficiency levels depend on urban versus rural, rich versus poor & male versus female

3) Teaching Learning situation:

 Teaching learning materials, unavailability of qualified teachers, and lack of good attitude & motivation of the learners, motivation of teachers etc play roles in term of teaching- learning situations

4)Aims, Goals & Objectives:

The aims, goals & objectives should be settled on the basis of the needs of the learners.


5)Types of Syllabus:

The syllabus which is followed in secondary level is mixed syllabus where it is focused on grammatical, structural, topic, situation, theme, functional, notional, skill, competency based etc
 

6)Component of the syllabus & how they have been organized:

The component of syllabus should be considered the principles of simplicity, demonstrability, frequency and usefulness of vocabulary, structures appropriate to a level. The learn ability and teach ability of items need to be considered too. 

7) Teaching methodology:
It deals with the methods of teaching what is done by teachers.

8)Evaluation Guideline:
It focuses on how the students will be evaluated by the end of the course or year.
